Miss Miyake
(TC Miyake [Zodiac Matador x Miss Cognac by Cognac] x Fire Essense [Pro-Fire x BRA Quintessence by Mikado++])
In 2007 when I lost Celeste,
I thought the world would end.
My way of dealing with my grief
was to look for another horse.
I wanted a half sister, another filly by Matrifik.
However, they were few and far between, no one would part with them,
and any that I could find were in Canada, as Celeste had been -
but the process of bringing a horse over the border was a lot more complicated
than it had been ten years prior - and it was no piece of cake then!
So I broadened my search -
granddaughters of Zodiac Matador,
chestnut, four socks.
I was contacted by Kim Morris of Mirage Arabians Ltd. in Nebraska.
She had heard of my story from someone I had contacted in my search.
She told me that she had a mare that she hadn't been planning to sell,
but after hearing my tale, she thought I might need this mare more than she did.
It was Easter when I knew this was my new horse.
It took only days to put everything together,
and late April, Miya arrived in NC!
Two weeks later I presented her
in the Open Barn at Liberty
since she was not yet under saddle.
She had such a great attitude toward everything
and I knew she'd be easy to put under saddle.
And she was, so with just a few months under our belts,
we went to Raleigh to show.
Back at home, she spent time learning to be a horse,
schooling dressage, beginning jumps,
and winning a trail class!
Dividing her time between my back yard
and intensive work at Serendipity, Miya has advanced her show training,
starred in the Open Barn as a War Horse, rolled in the dirt,
and learned to drive, among other things.
Chief among the things she has learned
is how to absolutely captivate my heart.
Nothing and no one could ever replace Celeste;
but Miya and I have forged something equally strong in a different way.
