Dream Baby Dream
Rachel and her Dream came to me for help.
They had a wonderful bond,
but Dream had some fears
and Rachel wanted desperately
to help her horse not be afraid.
Smart horses with concerns require creative measures.
First I had to win Rachel's trust,
so she could teach Dream to trust me.
Rachel and I had been working together in lessons.
It wasn't easy, but I felt like I had shown her
that I could be trusted, at least with humans.
Trusting me with her horse was a different story,
but she agreed to give me a chance.
Following our getting to know each other period,
I set about explaining to Dream that
we didn't have any interest in hurting her
and that riding could be fun.
After 4 sessions with Dream,
Rachel watched me ride her for the first time.

I think her face says it all :-)
It was important to Rachel to be involved in the process;
it was important to Dream that Rachel be there to tell her it was okay.
We reached a point where it was time for Dream and me
to decide if we were okay with each other.
We continue on the path of teaching Dream together.
She is learning to work in a ring, in a field, and to jump small fences.
Gradually I am stepping back from an active role,
moving to more coach and less rider,
but never abandoning either of my girls!
