Rachel had Carley for some years,
and they had built a great relationship.
Carley didn't always see the point
of the things humans wanted her to do.
Voicing her opinion had gotten her labeled
as all kinds of unpleasant things.
Rachel just wanted someone who would help her work with her horse that she loved,
not someone who wanted to change that horseinto something else entirely.
Lucky for her, I feel the same way!
And so we got to work.
We tried a bunch of things to see what Carley knew.
I was so pleasantly surprised
that I suggested maybe we should try to go to a show.
We just wanted Carley to get around the ring, perform all the gaits, and not throw a temper tantrum!
So imagine how excited we were when she not only did that,
she won a ribbon in every class!
We always say it isn't the ribbons that are why we show,
it's the rides that are why we show.
In this case it is more true that ever.
It is about proving to Carley that we believe in her,
and about proving to ourselves that belief is all it takes,
that once the horse believes we believe,
the rest is easy.
We have promised Carley that she doesn't ever have to go to a fussy show again if she doesn't like it.
Next... she learns to be an awesome field hunter!
