Cadence Sweet Southern Belle
I bought Belle as part of setting up a lesson program, ten years ago.
She was scrawny and unhealthy and barely saddlebroke,
but she was sweet and loving and even though she didn't work for what I needed,
I couldn't send her back where she came from,
and so she stayed with me.
She and I did many things together and I like to think she enjoyed it
but she is a one-person horse and I was not her person.
When Jennifer expressed an interest in riding Belle,
I was hesitant.
Belle is not an easy horse to ride; she's not bad, but she's a firecracker
and she requires a firm but understanding hand.
The students who had tried to ride her,
by and large, had not had positive results.
But Jennifer was undaunted by the challenge and Belle thrived under her attention.
In 2007 I offered Jennifer the chance to own Belle,
because I recognize a good thing when I see it.
In the years since, I have never ever doubted that decision.
