DF Adrianna
(Madagascar x Kemah Pompey's Eve)
In early 2000 I went looking for my second horse.
I wanted one that was unmistakably an Arab,
but also had the temperment to make a great lesson horse.
Adrianna was just two years old when she came to live with me.
She got off the trailer after a long ride from TN and instantly we were friends.
For a year we got to know each other, which means that I learned where her itchy spots were and she learned exactly how to get me to scratch them.
I started her under saddle in her three year old year.
She took to it with ease and we went off to a show later that year
and thus began her illustrious show career.
Over the next few years I showed her extensively,
both on the local level and at Arabian rated shows,
in Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure, and over fences, plus a little saddleseat from time to time.
At the same time, students showed her locally and she had as much success with them as she did with me,
proving that she was one of those rare horses that can truly be both lesson horse and show horse,
rising to the level of what is asked of her without being too much for beginners.
She was rapidly proving herself absolutely indispensable.
In the last few years, as we collectively have moved from being so competition oriented to being horsemanship driven,
Adrianna has both contributed and benefitted from the transition.
She has learned to do more things, like be a field hunter and pull the cart.
She remains a favorite among riders of all levels,
as she teaches all of us that we can only get out of our rides as much as we are willing to put into them.
On the rare occasions that we do go out to shows, she is always someone's choice,
and when we have activities at the barn there is always someone saying
"But * I * want to ride Adrianna!"
She is trustworthy and smooth and always appreciative of the peppermints that are forthcoming,
and if she is perpetually a little on the plump side,
one look at her pretty face and you can't help but smile!
On the day that Adrianna came into my life, ten years ago,
I had no idea just how important she would become.
She has taught me every bit as much as I have taught her.
She helped me to make my name as a show horse trainer
and as an instructor of quality students
and everywhere we went people wanted to pet her because she is so pretty, and she loved it.
Show horse, lesson horse, and ambassador for the breed -
Adrianna does it all, with a smile on her face and her ears up and beautiful every minute!
